Child Celebrating Halloween Hit By Car Near Diner In Hudson Valley

An area child who was out celebrating Halloween was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver.

The incident took place around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, when the 4-year-old child was crossing a busy roadway near the Plaza Diner in the Town of Greenport with his mother.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, as two crossed Fairview Avenue, the child was struck by a northbound vehicle. 

 The vehicle did not stop and continued northbound, police said. 

 The vehicle is described as a dark-colored SUV. 

 The Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in trying to locate the vehicle (pictured).

The child did suffer a fractured ankle, and cuts and bruises. 

 He was released from the hospital and is at home recovering.
